Guzakuza launches programme to empower young women in agribusiness

Accra, Nov.20, GNA –
Guzakuza, a social enterprise, Wednesday, launched  in Accra “Ignite 2019”, a capacity building
programme to equip young women from across the African continent with skills to
thrive in agribusinesses.

The three-week
programme would train participants from nine countries in various areas in the
agribusiness value chain. These include ‘Business and Financial Management’,
‘Book Keeping’, ‘Farming’,‘Marketing’,‘Packaging’‘Brand Management’ and
‘Agro-Processing.’

They would also
undergo a three-day internship with diverse agribusiness industries in Ghana.

Ghana is hosting the
programme for 16 representatives from Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, and
Tanzania.

Nana Adjoa Sifa, the
Lead person of Guzakuza, said the goal of Ignite was to create jobs and wealth
for young women in agribusiness, pointing out that many young women placed
unfortunately put less value on the sector.

The programme would,
therefore, enable participants to share their knowledge in their respective
fields of operation and deliberate on possible solutions to the common
challenges they faced.

The challenges
include access to lands, markets, infrastructure, transportation, and
electricity.

These would also
lead to increased production and promote food security, she said.

Nana Sifa said
agriculture or agribusiness was the most important sector of the economy and
encouraged young women to develop interest in it to enhance their livelihoods.

The Exim Bank is
supporting the programme with the Kairos Ladies Network,399 Services, mfarmpay
scalable loan, and Syecomp, being collaborators.

Gazakuza incubates
ground breaking ideas and accelerates game-changing Agribusiness start-ups,
that improve food security, create jobs and wealth.

It uses agriculture
and entrepreneurship to create mindset change in the society, highlight the
fact that Agriculture is not only about tilling the soil, but includes all the
processes from the farm growing, processing, technology, packaging, branding,
marketing, transportation, distribution.
