The family of ACP Dr Benjamin Agordzo, the top police officer who is standing trial for his alleged role to destabilize the country, says they are hopeful he will be acquitted and discharged soon because of his innocence.

They say the charges levelled against their relative lack merit.

ACP Agordzo was on Monday denied bail for the second time, when he appeared in court.

Citi News’ Volta Regional Correspondent, Benjamin Aklama interacted with some members of his family who said ACP Agordzo will be the last person to foment trouble anywhere.

“We don’t expect him to cause any harm anywhere”, his brother indicated.

Residents of Vakpo also say ACP Agordzo remains an inspiration to them.

“I was very shocked when I heard of his arrest. Having come into contact with him, we least expect him to be involved in such an act. We look up to him because he is a big profile in town”, one resident said.

ACP Agordzo has been charged with abetment to commit crime namely treason felony and is currently on remand in police custody.

His lawyers had challenged the jurisdiction of the court to hear the case in a bid to have their client freed but failed as the court ruled that it was clothed with jurisdiction to hear the matter.

Nine persons – three civilians, and six military personnel including Dr Frederick Yao Mac-Palm, who’s believed to be the lead mastermind are facing charges of treason felony and conspiracy to commit treason felony.
