Former Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan has taken a swipe at the Cape Coast police over their treatment of the man who invaded the pitch during Ghana’s 2-0 over South Africa.

Awal Suleman was arrested and detained by the Cape Coast police for running onto the pitch and disturbing the flow of the game.

The police on Friday charged him with offensive conduct and unlawful entry but released him on Saturday after he met the bail conditions.

Prior to his release, some Ghanaians took to social media to vent their anger at the prolonged detention and demand his release.

Unlike his successor Andre Ayew who joined the campaign with a plea to the police to ‘temper justice with mercy’, Gyan slammed the police for not taking cues from how security officials elsewhere dealt with pitch invaders.

Sharing a picture of a fan who invaded a pitch to take a picture with Cristiano Ronaldo, Gyan in a subtle attempt to justify the actions of Sulemana, questioned the police’s reasons of detaining him.

Like many social media commentators, Gyan is of the view of that the police are killing an ant with a sledge hammer with their handling of the Awal case.
