Accra, Nov. 12,
GNA – The National Labour Commission (NLC) has described the indefinite strike
called by the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) from November
13, this year as ‘illegal.’

They should,
therefore, rescind the decision.

JUSAG last week
served notices that it would embark on the industrial action over salary reviews
and negotiations for staff of the Service, which were recommended by the
Committee set up by the Judicial Council.

It also
complained about not being copies of the relevant report in spite of making
several demands.

JUSAG said it
decided to call the action after several meetings to seek resolution and after ‘with
the procedures under the 1992 Constitution regarding their conditions of
service.

But, In the NLC
statement issued, on Tuesday, and signed by Mr Ofosu Asamoah, Executive
Secretary, stated: “The commission in exercising it powers under Article
139, of the labour Act 2003, Act (651) advise JUSAG to refrain from embarking
on any strike action or intended industrial action and comply with the dictates
of directives issued to the parties.

“JUSAG is
hereby advised that the decision to embark on strike when the Commission is
seized with the matter, which is in contravention with section I6I of Act 651
and is consequently illegal”.

It said it met
the parties in the matter on November 11.

The Leadership
of JUSAG on Tuesday evening called members not report to work on Wednesday
November 13.

It however
asked security personnel to remain at post to protect lives and property.
