Nov 11, GNA – Nyonkopa Company Limited, a licensed Cocoa Buying Company (LBC)
has given scholarship worth GH¢100,000.00 to students in cocoa growing areas.
Presenting a cheque
at Sefwi Waiwso, Mr Pious Vincent Abakah, Head of Operations of Nyonkopa, said
the policy dubbed “child educational support” was to assist as well
as encourage beneficiary students to improve upon their academic work.
He hinted that the
Company would do its best to support cocoa famers who feed the country.
Dr Kwaku Afriyie,
Member of Parliament for Sefwi Waiwso, the guest speaker, said the government
was committed to ensuring better and efficient techniques for cocoa farming and
this was introduced through COCOBOD to serve farmers’ interest.
Nana Nicholas
Cobbinah, Western North Regional Chief Farmer who received the cheque on behalf
of the beneficiaries, commended the company for the scholarship, which he said
would go a long way to assist the students.
He commended the
government for increasing the producer price of cocoa this year despite the
fall in price at the international level, and was optimistic the price would
increase next year.
Mr Cobbinah further
advised farmers across the country to take advantage of the free senior high school
policy and send their wards to school and ask students to take their studies
serious.
