Wa, (UW/R), Nov 12,
GNA – Mr Bernard Badu, the Director of the Department of Feeder Roads has paid
a courtesy call on the Upper West Regional Minister as part of his official
working visit to the region.

Mr Badu said his
visit to the region was to start his nationwide regional tours to ascertain the
state of Feeder Roads in the regions for the necessary development works to
commence.

Dr Hafiz Bin Salih,
the Upper West Regional Minister, commended the Director for choosing the Upper
West Region as his first point of call, adding that it was a sign of commitment
to meet the needs of the people in the region in terms of road development.

He explained that
though the state of road network in the region was appreciable, there was the
need to improve on it to enable beneficiaries of the Planting for Food and Jobs
(PFJ) to maximise the benefits of the programme.

He said farmers
benefiting from the programme needed to cart their farm produce to the markets
and stressed the need for the road network to be improved.

Dr Bin Salih assured
the Director of the readiness of the Regional Coordinating Council to
collaborate with the Feed Roads Department to improve on the state of roads in
the region to boost economic activities.

He gave the
assurance that the release of $4 billion by the government to pay road
contractors was an indication of commitment of the government to improve the
road sector.

He appealed to road
contractors in the region to go back to site to complete their projects for the
good of the people, and assured them of government’s readiness to fulfill its
part of the contract.

He also told the
director that road contractors in the region were competent enough to execute
contracts when they were given the opportunity, and lobbied for road
contractors in the region to be considered with major contracts awards.
