The University of Education Winneba entrance
Chairman of the University of Education, Winneba Governing Council, Prof Obeng Mireku has said the council is sure of its desire to resolve all issues which seem to militate against the peace of the university.
He said in line with this, the Governing Council is assuring the general public that it would take a look at all the petitions received at its subsequent meetings.
The council chair admitted though this is appears to be a daunting task, the council would work conscientiously to surmount any challenge that may be encountered.
“We wish to indicate that we shall do all that we can to justify our call to serve on the council,” Prof Obeng Mireku said at the 24th congregation ceremony of the university at the Winneba campus.
In all, 16,485 students are graduating in the various campuses of the University of Education, Winneba.
Students were awarded degrees, diplomas and certificates in various academic disciplines.
Prof Obeng Mireku further appealed for financial clearance from government to enable the institution recruit more staff as this will allow the university to increase the number of students to be admitted.
“We are earnestly appealing to government for financial clearance to recruit more staff, especially academic staff to meet our expanded population, and in anticipation of the large number of senior high school students who will be seeking admission into the university following the government’s flagship free SHS initiative.
Prof Obeng Mireku advised graduands to let their lives impact positively on the society in which they find themselves.
He also called on them to join hands in fighting crime including kidnapping, by volunteering information to the security agencies on suspected characters within their neighborhood.
Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Rev Father Prof Anthony Afful-Broni said the university has over the few years witnessed massive infrastructural development to meet the large students’ population.
He mentioned the construction of the lecture blocks, lecturers’ block, staff apartment complex, university hospital, students’ residential facilities, food court among others projects to give the university a facelift.
Rev Afful-Broni charged graduands to remain focused on excellence, dedication, honesty, self-respect and respect for others and never be afraid of failure. ‘’dare to create and build your own jobs, even if small and humble’’.
He expressed gratitude to the government through the Ministry of Education for continued support for the university.
