Ambrose Dery, Interior Minister
The Minister for Interior Ambrose Dery has called for non-partisan support in dealing with threats to the democratic process in the country.
He made these comments at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council in Tamale when he was addressing heads of security as part of a working visit to the area.
The Minister reiterated government’s commitment to ensure peace in the country, saying that the government has begun equipping the security personnel to improve their efficiency.
“I want to thank the security agencies for making sure that they nabbed any threat to the democratic arrangement that we have in this country. I expect every Ghanaian to support the maintenance of the democratic order. I would entreat all of us to allow the security agencies to bring to the various courts information they have with respect to the threat to the democratic dispensation that we have. It should be non-partisan support,” he said.
“We should not try to behave in a manner that suggests that we are not committed to the democratic dispensation. One thing is certain, that this government is going to go through due process and therefore at the end of the day, anyone who has not done anything wrong would not suffer any penalty. I call on Ghanaians to support the security agencies in their work to keep Ghana safe so that we will continue to have the good governance and the relative peace that we have here,” he added.
This comes on the back of the arrest of some military officers and civilians allegedly plotting to destabilize the country.
So far a number of them have been put before court and remanded into the custody of some of the security agencies in the country.
