Mexican Jaime Munguia took his record to 33-0 as he proved too good for Ghanaian Patrick Allotey in California on Saturday.

Allotey lost out on WBO junior middleweight title after he was sent to the canvas on two occasions before retiring in the fourth round.

The defeat was Allotey’s fourth in 40 professional fights.

Here is our round-by-round breakdown:

Round 1- Traded punches and landed some clean shots upstairs but was caught on the ropes with a flurry of Munguia punches. Good left jabs from Allotey and he kept dancing around with the champion attacking. Good round from Allotey.

Round 2- Allotey continued attacking and connected some good punches in the middle of the ring. Good combustion and powerful shots from the Ghanaian. Munguia didn’t really step up. Verdict: 10-9 for the titlist.

Round 3- Munguia landed good body shots from the start but there was a reprisal from Allotey though transient. Allotey went to ground after being pummeled in the corner. Referee counted. Munguia went below the beltline. Bout stopped briefly. Allotey knocked out after violent combinations from the champion. So in this round, Allotey was floored twice.

Round 4- Munguia opened the round with an overhead shot and that unsettled Allotey, who stopped throwing his left jabs 58 secs left, Allotey knelt on his knees in the corner with Munguia approaching. The referee went to the boxer and his corner where they stopped the fight.
