KKD’s rape allegation: I wasn’t in the space to defend him – KOD (Video)

Media personality, Kofi Okyere Darko, popularly known as KOD, has opened up on the rape allegations against his friend, Kwesi Kyei Darkwah, also known as KKD, some few years ago.

According to him, though KKD wanted him to defend him publicly after the rape allegations soared, he wasn’t in the right space to do so.

KOD explained that, he did more for KKD in his lowest point than it was reported in the media but KKD thought “I wasn’t there for him.

“He thought I was not there for him and I think that is really arguable. I gave him his lawyer. My wife was cooking every morning for him. I was there in cells every day. He told me that I looked more worried than he was.

“I was genuinely very worried. That’s my brother in cells, my mentor and I was there when he took his shirt off. I was really heartbroken,” he told Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Thursday.

Throwing light on how worried he was and why he couldn’t go overboard defending KKD, KOD said, “he had come out to say its consensual and I had a lawyer who said I wasn’t in the space where the act took place so what was I gonna say?” He queried.

According to KOD, KKD’s rape accusation affected his business and some core relationships he had with people.

The Airport Police arrested KKD on December 27, 2014 after a 19-year-old lady, Miss Ewuraffe Orleans Thompson, accused him of raping her in a hotel washroom.

Mr Darkwah admitted having sex with the lady but denied he forced her.

He was brought before the Kaneshie District Magistrates’ Court after he was detained for three days in police cells. The court denied him bail and remanded him into police cells.

KOD was dragged into the mess when it emerged he was with KKD at the time.

Later, the case was dropped against KKD at a hearing at an Accra High Court.  The State Prosecutor filed a Nolle Prosequi which paved way for the court to discharge the broadcaster.
