Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), says 39 aspirants are to contest unopposed in the party’s parliamentary primaries scheduled for Saturday, August 24, 2019.

According to him, the development follows concerns raised over the qualification of aspirants in some constituencies ahead of the primaries.

He also said, “no phones will be allowed into the voting booth so everybody must take not and for the aspirants, you cannot go with more than three people to the polling centres because the police will stop you.”

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, General Mosquito, as he is popularly known in political circles, acknowledged aspirants and delegates for their efforts ahead of the primaries.

“This has been one of our smoothest and peaceful processes; previously, we were receiving about 70 to 100 petitions but had only 17 this year and as it stands now, we have 39 candidates going unopposed.

“We still have five constituencies; Yilo Krobo, Mpohor, Ellembelle, Asawase and Fanteakwa North on hold due to unresolved conflicts which are before the conflict resolution committee,” he added.

He cautioned aspirants and delegates on their conduct before, during and after the primaries.

“No phones will be allowed into the voting booth so everybody must take not and for the aspirants, you cannot go with more than three people to the polling centres because the police will stop you,” he added.
