Menzgold CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah
Nana Appiah Mensah, CEO of embattled gold dealership Menzgold has rubbished claims that he is eyeing political office.
Popularly known as NAM1, he noted that he is rather focused on helping society as an entrepreneur rather than seeking political power.
Mr Appiah was reacting to rumours that he is looking to run for the country’s presidency in 2020.
Through his NAM Mission, a charity wing of his business empire, he embarked on several tours in some parts of the country stoking rumours that he was courting voters.
Addressing a press conference at the MJ Grand Hotel at East Legon in Accra Monday, since he returned from Dubai in July, the Menzgold owner said he is fixated on only “missionary” work.
“I want to reiterate that I do not seek political office or power,” he stressed as disgruntled customers of Menzgold waited with bated breathe for positive news about their investments that have been locked up at the dealership.
“My goal towards contributing for the good of Ghana and Africa is missionary not mercenary,” NAM1 stated.
He said, “Clearly, my willingness to be misunderstood is the basis for [the] many criticisms and the exercise of brute force and skewed media reportage witnessed against our outfit in the last 12 months.”
“I am an entrepreneur and I remain as such,” the embattled CEO of Menzgold stressed.
Mr Mensah was granted bail by Ghana on Tuesday, August 6 after he met his reviewed bail conditions.
He is currently facing 13 counts of defrauding by false pretences, money laundering, abetment and carrying on deposit-taking business without license contrary to Section 6 (1) of the Banks and Specialised Deposit-taking Institutions Act.
The Menzgold CEO has been accused of defrauding about 16,000 customers of about ¢1.68 billion.
