Angola: Eastern Provinces to Benefit From Lauca Dam Power

Luena — The Eastern provinces of Moxico, Lunda Sul and Lunda will benefit from electricity from the Lauca dam in the near future, says the minister of energy and water, João Baptista Borges.

Ministerial delegation visits Luena Thermal Power Station

Speaking to the press, as part of his two-day working visit to Moxico, the minister explained that by 2022 it is planned to energetically interconnect the three provinces through the Laúca dam in Malanje.

He said the project aims to help speed up the development process in the eastern part of the country and improve the quality of life of the local population.

Regarding plans for the supply of drinking water in the province of Moxico, the official informed that the first step will be to fight the ravines and to remove silt from the Luena and Lumege rivers, respectively, for a better capture and distribution of water to the consumer’s house.

Accompanied by the governor of the province of Moxico, Gonçalves Muandumba, João Baptista Borges visited the new 20 MW thermal power station of the Youth Social housing, the water catchment systems built on the banks of the Lumege and Luena rivers, among other enterprises.

On Tuesday (13), the minister will work in the municipality of Camanongue.
