Malanje — At least 200, of the 1,000 teacher vacancies available for this year’s public education tender in Malanje will be for special education teachers, given the shortage of specialists in the field.
The education sector controls 300 children with special educational needs who need specialized teachers. A special education center is expected to open this year.
Modern braille machines for the visually impaired are already available. It also has only two classrooms to cater for students with special needs.
According to the acting director of the Provincial Education Office, Aides Aires, who was speaking at the opening of the training on “Angolan and Braille Sign Language”, the province has only 120 special education educators.
