Policewoman’s murder: One suspect sustained gunshot wound

The Northern Regional  Command PRO of Police Deputy Superintendent,  Mohammed Yusif Tanko confirmed that one of the five suspects in connection with the Tuesday evening killing of a policewoman, Agatha Narbin arrested sustained a gunshot injury.

According to him, the suspect was shot in the course of the arrest because he threatened the life of the policemen who were making the arrest.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, he said the police only opened fire to as a form of self-defence and also to facilitate the arrest the suspect.

“As of now what I want to say is, in the course of the when he tried to put the lives of the policemen in danger. He was not the person who was arrested but he was resisting arrest and sustain the bullet injury. The Police opens fire on suspect under various circumstances, one is when they put the lives of the officers in danger, another is when the suspect has committed a very serious crime and is attempting to escape,” he said.

Five persons have been arrested in connection with the Tuesday evening killing of a policewoman, Agatha Narbin, by suspected gunmen at Tamale in the Northern Region.

Sources close to the Tamale Police Command say the five are part of a gang who camped in the Aboabo forest in Tamale.

The arrests were effected by a joint Police-Military operation in the forest upon intelligence.

The Tamale Police Command is expected to make an official announcement on the arrests.

Reports indicate that armed men in military clothes opened fire at a police checkpoint on the Kumbungu road in the Northern Region killing the policewoman in the process.
