Let’s rise up and do more – First Lady charges women

The First Lady of the Republic, Rebecca Akufo Addo has charged the women of Ghana to rise up and do more for society in order to impact same positively.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the Young African Women Congress (YAWC), organized to celebrate the Chief of Staff, Madam Akosua Frema Osei- Opare of the Office of the President, as a Model African Woman of the Year 2019, at the Bank of Ghana Auditorium, University of Ghana, under the theme; “Grassroots Mobilization for Women’s Empowerment: Young Women Lead”, the First Lady said women are pushing the frontiers and making immense contributions to the women’s movement and to the world, yet the volume is often turned down on their accomplishments.

“Women Empowerment is not a fantasy, it is the narrative of strong and resilient women who are making real impact.” I charge all women here to dissect what it means to be self-aware the hard way. To go from wanting to be silent and invisible to making an impact on society,” the First Lady said.

Turing her attention of the Lady Chief of Staff, First Lady Rebecca Akufo Addo noted, “One way or the other this woman has had an impact on all of us here.

“She has demonstrated through her work and family life that when women rise up to the occasion, we make a significant difference which cannot be ignored” First Lady Rebecca Akufo Addo said.

She further noted further, “The Chief of Staff is a woman who knows no barriers and sees no obstacles. Hers is a story of contending with all prejudices and fresh absurdities every day. She is indeed a role model to many young women in Ghana and Africa today who have reservations about public office“.

“Auntie Frema because of you I am inspired to do more and I encourage all women here especially the delegates to tap into the life and history of Honourable Akosua Frema Osei Opare,” the First Lady said.

In her address, the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei Opare, described the decision of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to appoint her as a risk he took.

“I am urging many more people in authority to take that same risk that His Excellency took with me and give women a chance in their various endeavours,” the Chief of Staff said.

The Chief of Staff registered her deep appreciation for the honour done her by the ExLA Group, organizers of the Young African Women Congress for the honor done her as the Model African Woman of the Year 2019.
