Accord my successor with the same cooperation – Outgoing 37 Hospital Commander

By Dennis Osei Gyamfi / Philip Mensah, GNA

Accra, July 21, GNA – Brigadier General
Michael Akwasi Yeboah Agyapong, the Outgoing Commander of 37 Military Hospital,
has urged the staff and workers of 37 the Military Hospital to accord to his
successor the same cooperation as they did for him.

Brig. Gen. Agyapong said during the tenure
of his stewardship, the hospital was faced with deteriorating infrastructure,
obsolete and broken down equipment, severe manpower shortage and dwindling
finances, but with the support of the Military High Command and staff of the
hospital, they were able to take the bold step of renovating and refurbishing
some of the abandoned facilities for use.

Brig. Gen. Agyapong said this during a
handing over and pulling out ceremony after his 32 years of service as a
Commander of the 37 Military Hospital.

‘’The needs of the hospital are very
enormous and considering the role it plays as the National Disaster and
Emergency Centre, it cannot meet all due to the increased number of paupers and
others who cannot pay for services received at the hospital. The hospital
urgently needs an MRI machine,” he said.

He said to improve upon the quality and
skills of staff, various training programs were organized with resource
personnel from within the Ghana Armed Forces Medical School (GAFMS) and
external facilitators.

Brig. Gen. Agyapong said the hospital also
migrated onto the Electronic Medical Records system to bring into realization
the long held dream of the hospital which improved the hospital data going
paperless.

He said the paperless system reduced the
waiting time of patients, eliminated the incidence of lost folders and
facilitated monitoring and report generation.

He expressed appreciation to numerous
individuals and organizations who donated air conditioners, beds sheets and
mattresses, bedside lockers, wheelchairs, detergents, medical consumables among
other vital needs of the hospital.

Brigadier General Michael Akwasi Yeboah
Agyapong holds a followership in Dental Surgeons with the Ghana College of
Physicians and Surgeons, also from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburg,
England; and he is a member of the West African Postgraduate Medical College.

 He
was born on June 20, 1957 at Jumapo in the Eastern Region.

Brig. Gen. undertook a residency at the
Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital, Kaduna Nigeria
and later continued at the North Manchester General Hospital and Blackburn
Royal Infirmary in the United Kingdom.

He entered the Ghana Military Academy at
Teshie to pursue military training as an officer and was commissioned into the
Ghana Armed Forces Medical Service in August 1987 as a Lieutenant.

Colonel Nii Adjah Obodai will take over as
the new 37 Military Hospital Commander from Brig. Gen. Agyapong who served 32
years in office.
