Volta RCC to name and shame latecomers to events

By
Maxwell Awumah, GNA

Ho, July 20, GNA – Mr Felix B. Chaahaah,
Volta Regional Coordinating Director on Thursday said the Regional Coordinating
Council (RCC) intends to start naming and shaming habitual latecomers or
absentees to its events.

He said the measure was to address the
continuous lateness by heads of Departments to programmes by the RCC.

Mr Chaahaah said this at the Regional Heads
of Department, Agencies and Services meeting in Ho.

He said time management, a factor of
production, continues to be relegated to the back-burner by Ghanaian workers
and this means that a cardinal element in production in economic terms could
not be realised.

A correspondence dated July 11, which
summoned all the 120 heads to the meeting on July 18, at 1000 hours at the
conference hall of the Residency, had only 33 participants seated 40 minutes
into the time; with five additional members joining at the start of the
programme at 1100 hours.

A few other joined to raise the number to
about 44, when the programme was in full flight and this is against the
expected full house of about 120 people.

The Coordinating Director, visibly upset,
said “time is a development issue, anything without time losses its value. Time
is of essence.”

“As agents of development, it is
problematic, when we disrespect time.”.

Mr Chaahaah said as supervisors of workers
and subordinates, that attitude and culture of lateness needed to change, “How
do we meet the aspirations of the people, when we foster in lateness?”

At the forum he expressed disappointment
that over 200 retirees were still occupying government bungalows in the region
and said action would soon be taken on them.

Mr Chaahaah said there were three category
of defaulters, those who refused to pay rent, failed to leave the building and
those who complained about deplorable structures, yet are still dwelling in
them.

He reminded the illegal occupants that the
country was ruled by laws and urged them to do what is expected of them.
