A member of the OneGhana Movement, Senyo Hosi, has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to intervene in the alleged torture of the editor of news portal, modernghana.com by National Security operatives.

Speaking on The Big Issue, Mr. Hosi said the President, as a human rights advocate “must ensure justice and fairness for the [journalists].”

Mr. Hosi feels the National Security is currently engaged in damage control following the torture allegations.

“This case would have been thrown out by the National Security. They are in a face-saving phase of the matter which does not help this country and I think the President must put his foot down.”

The National Security setup has not been far from controversy in 2019 following the acts of brutality by the SWAT team affiliated to National Security during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

Mr. Hosi said the recent torture allegations presented the state with opportunity for reform

“This thing presents them with the perfect opportunity either to clean up the mess that they have inherited… at OneGhana Movement, our objective in this thing is very simple. We are taking advantage of this case to trigger institutional reforms in our security service and their attitude to the citizenry.”

The editor of Modern Ghana, Emmanuel Ajarfor, claimed his digital privacy was also violated in addition to the torture.

His lawyers are considering a civil suit but the other journalist, Emmanuel Biritwum, claimed he was never tortured.

The OneGhana Movement has lamented a lack of trust in the National Security tough it has denied the torture allegations.

The OneGhana Movement has also demanded the release of unedited video footage of the interrogation of the Modern Ghana journalists by National Security operatives.

This according to OneGhana Movement will provide clarity on all claims.
