The Normalisation Committee of the GFA has congratulated Ashantigold and Nzema Kotoko on their NC Special Competition Tier 2 qualification to the grand final
The Obuasi-based Ashgold defeated their regional rivals Asante Kotoko 3-1 in Accra last Wednesday to set a final date with Nzema Kotoko, who also beat fellow Division One campaingers, Unistar Academy, 2-1 in Cape Coast.
A statement posted on the official website of the GFA applauded the two finalists for defying all odds to reach the last stage of the competition.
“It has been an exhausting journey to the final for the two teams, considering the curvey format of the competition, which required teams to do well in their respective leagues in order to qualify for the special Tier 2 knockout competition,” it stated.
“The convincing semi-final victory of Ashantigold and Nzema Kotoko, indeed confirmed their superior run in the knockout competition, and we are now looking forward to an epic final next week.
“While congratulating both teams, we are particularly delighted by the qualification of Nzema Kotoko to the final because their presence gives credence to the values of the competition.”
“The essence of the Tier 2 Competition was to generate intense competition between the nation’s top two tier league sides; Premier League and Division One clubs, and it is fitting that we have a Premier League side and a Division One side in the final to compete for the ultimate.”
In the NC Special Competition Tier 1 final on Sunday, Kotoko will meet Karela United at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
