Some survivors of last Saturday’s accident at Asitey in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality that killed seven people on the spot and left several severely injured have been narrating the events that led to the accident.

The injured, who spoke from their admission beds at the Atua Government Hospital, said the vehicle was faulty and was not fit to ply the road.

They said though the Volta River Authority (VRA) owned Daewoo saloon bus with registration number GV 2497 14 stopped many times on the way to fix a recurring mechanical fault, the driver kept assuring them that he could manage the situation.

Sixty-one parishioners of the Saint Barbara Catholic church in Akosombo on board the Daewoo bus were returning from Akyem Oda to Akosombo after a funeral.

Unfortunately, the driver lost control of the vehicle and fell into a ditch at the Asitey curve killing seven passengers on board.

A 37-year-old mother of the five month-old-baby, who survived the accident unhurt, Joana Amewugah said her baby’s escape was a miracle.

The infant was the only occupant onboard who survived the accident without a scratch.

According to a deputy Director of Nursing Services at the Atua Government Hospital, Marylove Nai Williams, 10 casualties are still under their care.

She said many were treated and discharged on Saturday while some have been referred to the St. Joseph Hospital, Eastern Regional Hospital and VRA Hospital.
