The Canada/Ghana Chamber of Commerce is leading over 20 Ghanaian companies
Ghana has made its first appearance at North America’s leading energy event, the Global Petroleum Show (GPS) underway in Calgary, Canada.
The three-day event, which is attracting over 50,000 upstream petroleum professionals, provides a platform for the Petroleum Commission (PC), Ghana’s Upstream Petroleum Regulator, to pitch to prospective investors about opportunities that exist in the nation’s upstream industry.
The Commission in partnership with the Canada/Ghana Chamber of Commerce, is leading over 20 Ghanaian companies to explore opportunities and secure the right partnerships with their international counterparts.
Mr Egbert Faibille Jnr, the Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission, is leading the delegation, which include Ms. Patricia Asaam, Head of Government Relations at the Ministry of Energy, Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko, Western Regional Minister, and Mr. Kwaku Boateng, Director of Local Content at the PC.
Also, Mr Joseph Ayikoi Otoo, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Canada is participating in the Show to make a strong case for investors to consider Ghana as the ultimate destination for upstream petroleum activities.
Already, the Ghanaian participants have been highlighting the many governments’ activities in the sector, including several investment opportunities such as farm-in, and subsea inspection services, supporting government to develop the Western Region as an upstream petroleum hub, as well as the revamping of the Tema Shipyard to support the petroleum industry.
A PC source said although, Canada’s industry was currently facing a downturn, the delegation was determined to present Ghana as the preferred destination for the Canadian companies seeking to explore alternative regions or areas for their oil and gas activities.
The GPS event, which ends on Thursday June 13, is expected to provide participants with a better outlook of Ghana’s upstream petroleum industry.
