Former Black Stars attacker, Anthony Yeboah has recommended for an arrangement to be made to allow players of the national team to vote for who they want to be their Captain.
His comment comes on the back of the captaincy issue that seems to always divide the national team at crucial moment. The recent being the incident that happened between Asamoah Gyan and head coach James Kwesi Appiah when he wanted to take away the captaincy away from him.
The gaffer’s decision to elevate Gyan to the position of ‘general captain did not go down well with him as he announced that he will want to be recused from any national assignment.
It took the intervention of President Nana Addo before the Kayserispor attacker rescinded his decision and made himself available for selection for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
Sharing his thoughts on Atinka FM in a build up to the start of the AFCON, Tony Yeboah has suggested that captains for the Black Stars should be chosen through voting which will be done by the players.
“In my opinion, the captaincy of the Black Stars should be voted for by the players. The coach must select 3 or 4 players for them be voted for. This will mitigate the problems associated with the captaincy of the Black Stars”, the ex-Kotoko player said.
