Hearts V KotokoKotoko opted out of the game, following GFA’s decision to offer them 30% of the gate proceeds

The highly anticipated “Super Clash” between Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the semi-final clash of Tier One of Special Competition slated for Sunday, June 16, has been put on hold again, following the latest correspondence from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to the Kumasi based club.

According to a press statement signed by Mr. Ismaila Amin Gado, Deputy General Secretary of the GFA, Kotoko is expected to officially write to GFA, rescinding their decision, after initial boycott of the game.

It would be recalled that Kotoko opted out of the game, following the decision of the GFA to offer them 30% of the gate proceeds, whilst Kotoko demanded 40%.

However, a meeting between Kotoko and Mr. Kudjo Fiano, Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), led to a peaceful resolution with Kotoko now taking home 40% of the gate proceeds, as well as agreeing to play at the Accra Sports Stadium.

A letter from the GFA on Tuesday, June 11, however, stated that “kindly be informed that until we receive a letter from Asante Kotoko SC reversing their decision to withdraw from the competition, we are of the view that the semi-final is on hold”.

This new development seems to have put the game on hold again and it is not confirmed, if the game would be played on Sunday as planned.
