National Cross Country race returns after years of dormancy

The National Sports Authority (NSA) under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) has organized a Cross Country Race for Ghanaian athletes in Mpohor, Western Region on Saturday after nine(9) years of inactiveness.

The resurged event saw both male and female athletic teams from all the 10 regions of Ghana participate with enthusiasm.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Hon. Perry Curtis Okudzeto announced that his outfit under the stewardship of Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah have made it a priority to identify and support athletes to build a pool of sports men and women capable of representing the country at International competitions.

“The Ministry is working with the National Sports Authority and relevant stakeholders to ensure that Ghana is always represented by our best athletes at sporting competitions”.

“The resurrection of events like the National Cross Country Race forms part of this vision.”

Hon. Okudzeto highlighted the importance of assembling medal-winning prospects for the the African games to be staged in Ghana.

” In 2023 when we organize the African Games, we want to be ready and put our best foot forward as we strive for honours,” he said.

The Director General of the National Sports Authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi further disclosed that his outfit will roll-out a number of programmes designed to promote lesser known sports relegated to the background for the last years.

Present at this year’s event included the Omanhene of Mpohor Traditional Area, Nana Kow Entsie II, Member of Parliament for Mpohor Constituency and Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth and Sports, Hon. Alex Agyekum among other dignitaries.
