Amandzeba gave me the nickname “Appietus” – Veteran Producer tells his story

Celebrated sound engineer and musician, Nana Appiah Dankwah popularly known as Appietus has revealed how he got “Appietus” that served as a signature to various hit songs in the country.

Narrating how he got the name, in an interview with Merqury Quaye on Hitz FM’s Cruise Control, the “Move Back” hitmaker said highlife legend Amandzeba Nat Brew gave him the moniker.

He told Merqury that, “I was home one day and I heard someone calling me out Appietus! I opened the door and realised it was Amandzeba. He called me that for so long that Barima Sidney started calling me same. That was how it escalated.”

He, however admitted following his dreams at an early age saying:

I started playing piano in church and I was collecting big money. I didn’t finish school because the subjects weren’t going well for me. I was doing Visual Arts. It wasn’t realistic to me. So my mom was giving me pressure and I told her I wanted to do music,” he said.

Appietus is a multiple award-winning music producer and sound engineer known for his versatility.

His constant adaptation to trends or needs arising has helped him produce songs with genres like Afro-Pop, Hi-Life, Reggae, Gospel, Dance Hall, African Traditional, Hiplife and Azonto.

He also has appeared as a judge on Vodafone Icons alongside Miss Naa and musician Samini.

He has worked with numerous artistes including Daddy Lumba, Sydney, Samini, Praye, Sarkodie, Obrafuor, Okyeame Kwame, Kwabena Kwabena and Ofori Amponsah.
