Most businesses in Ghana are yet to procure the machine needed for the implementation of the controversial tax stamp policy with just two days for its takeoff.<\/p>\n

Arguing that the move will increase the cost of doing business if implemented in its current state, they are threatening to halt their operation should the government go ahead with the implementation.<\/p>\n

A meeting between the businesses and the Association of Ghana Industries to present a common position on the policy ended in a deadlock.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Starr Business, the Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association, Samson Asaki, said: \u201cI know that no company to the best of my knowledge has gone to secure the machine.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said AGI\u2019s inability to publicly comment on the government\u2019s planned implementation of the controversial policy is appalling.<\/p>\n

In his reaction, however, the Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta said the implementation of the policy will help expose tax evaders.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s not question the precision of these policies that we are bringing and the need for them to be implemented because taxes are being evaded,\u201d he urged.<\/p>\n
