{"id":467385,"date":"2018-02-25T08:09:42","date_gmt":"2018-02-25T08:09:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2018\/02\/25\/i-focused-on-developmental-projects-instead-of-milk-mahama\/"},"modified":"2018-02-25T08:09:42","modified_gmt":"2018-02-25T08:09:42","slug":"i-focused-on-developmental-projects-instead-of-milk-mahama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2018\/02\/25\/i-focused-on-developmental-projects-instead-of-milk-mahama\/","title":{"rendered":"I focused on developmental projects instead of &#8216;milk&#8217; &#8211; Mahama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Mahama-475x267.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"mashsb-container mashsb-main mashsb-stretched\"> <\/aside>\n<p>Former President John Mahama has likened the defeat he suffered at the hands of then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2016 elections to the fate suffered by Ghana\u2019s first President Dr Kwame Nkrumah in 1966.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, just like Kwame Nkrumah, he focused on developmental projects during his reign while the opposition maligned him.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing a teeming crowd of NDC supporters at the party\u2019s Unity Walk held in Somanya in the Eastern Regional Saturday, ex President Mahama quoted a famous response from Dr Nkrumah after his overthrow that he didn\u2019t know that Ghanaians wanted milk and sardine.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cKwame Nkrumah said something while he was in exile that he didn\u2019t know that it was milk and sardine Ghanaians wanted and that he wouldn\u2019t have built Akosombo Dam. He would have distributed sardines and milk free to Ghanaians, and they say history repeats itself.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhen you\u2019re busy working, constructing roads, building hospitals, opening water systems, extending electricity, people say we don\u2019t eat roads, we don\u2019t eat hospitals, we don\u2019t eat schools and they make all kinds of promises and so Ghanaians vote them back into power.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ex President Mahama also took a swipe at the New Patriotic Party over its inability to reduce fuel prices.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cIn December last year petrol was selling GHC 14.00 and we were told that it was too expensive and that 50% of the petrol was made up of taxes alone and that when they win and come into office, they\u2019ll remove the taxes so that petrol will sell at GHC 7.00. Today, petrol is selling at GHC22.00 per gallon, I\u2019m even more concerned about LPG\u00a0 because LPG was about GHC 40.00\u00a0 before December 7.
