Former Deputy Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayini has revealed that he became poorer after he ventured into politics, contrary to the widely held perception that politics is an avenue to make money.<\/p>\n
The Bolgatanga East Member of Parliament told Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Starr FM Wednesday that before going into politics, he was doing very well in his private practice as a lawyer and Lecturer.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile in office, I never took a bribe, I never stole government money in fact I became poorer going into politics. I was doing very well in my private practice and when President Mahama came to my constituency during my campaign in 2016, that\u2019s what he told the constituents. He said I was making so much money in my private practice and that he didn\u2019t know that I\u2019ll agree to leave that and come and serve as Deputy Attorney General.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve always wanted to serve but it\u2019s becoming a bit depressing because of the things you come across. Sometimes I regret going into politics, it takes a toll on you. Sometimes you get insulted, you get people who otherwise would not have spoken to you the way they do, will do so.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cWhen I first started, I\u2019m still a straight talker but I wouldn\u2019t take nonsense. I used to tell my constituents that I\u2019m not here to for them to literally step over me because I want to be MP. I told them I was not dying to be your MP, I\u2019m here to serve you and if you wouldn\u2019t accept me, reject me so that I go back to Accra and practice my law. At every campaign stop if there was misconduct, I\u2019ll point it out and my constituency executives were really worried, they thought I\u2019ll be roundly rejected, but now that\u2019s the new normal in Bolga East.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
