{"id":466292,"date":"2018-02-21T14:51:30","date_gmt":"2018-02-21T14:51:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2018\/02\/21\/mass-bar-exams-failure-law-students-declare-red-day\/"},"modified":"2018-02-21T14:51:30","modified_gmt":"2018-02-21T14:51:30","slug":"mass-bar-exams-failure-law-students-declare-red-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2018\/02\/21\/mass-bar-exams-failure-law-students-declare-red-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Mass Bar exams failure: Law students declare \u2018Red Day\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"medsection1\">\n<!-- End of html generated by this->header() --><\/p>\n<p class=\"floatLeft\">General News of Wednesday, 21 February 2018<\/p>\n<p class=\"floatRight\"><strong>Source: <\/strong>Myjoyonline.com <\/p>\n<p>2018-02-21<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-left\">\n<p class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/93774569.295.jpg\" alt=\"Ghana School Of Law,,\" title=\"Ghana School Of Law,,\" width=\"295\" height=\"169\" \/><span class=\"play-icon\">play video<\/span><span class=\"image_caption\"><span>The Council is demanding a remarking of all the failed papers<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"noPrint\">\n<div id=\"537626303\" style=\"width:300;height:250;margin:0;padding:0\">\n<p>\t\t  <noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"b2ad7fa7fd\" name=\"b2ad7fa7fd\" src=\"http:\/\/ghanaweb-d.openx.net\/w\/1.0\/afr?auid=537626303&amp;cb=151125813973067\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\"><a href=\"\/\/ghanaweb-d.openx.net\/w\/1.0\/rc?cs=b2ad7fa7fd&amp;cb=151125813973067\"><\/p>\n<p>\t\t  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/1519224690_957_ai\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"clear:right\">Aggrieved students of the Ghana Law School have declared Wednesday a &#8220;Red Day&#8221; across all campuses to show their disapproval of the results of the 2017 Bar exams which saw a whopping 81% of students failing.<\/p>\n<p>All law students are expected to wear red as a sign of protest against the disappointing results, which the Ghana Law School Students\u2019 Representative Council (SRC) has described as an \u201cinjustice\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The SRC executives and an agitated group of students are also expected to hold  a  press conference on Wednesday at 1:00 pm at  the  Accra  main  campus  of the law school on the matter and  subsequently  submit a petition to the \u201cappropriate  authorities\u201d  on the results.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n \u201cAll students are entreated to turn up for the press conference with their red bands [Wednesday] at the  Accra main campus,\u201d the circular urged students.<\/p>\n<p>The SRC had rejected the results on Tuesday when it became public that only 91 students, representing 19% of the total students, passed the important exams that would allow them to be admitted into the hallowed profession.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 474 students who wrote the exams, a total of 206 are to repeat the entire course after failing the final Bar exams.<\/p>\n<p>Another 177 students have been referred in one or two papers.<\/p>\n<p>The SRC is convinced the results could not have been the true reflection of the exams written by the students.<\/p>\n<p>The Council is, therefore, demanding a remarking of all the failed papers with a drastic reduction in the remarking fee from \u00a23,000 to \u00a2500.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn line with the rules of natural justice that a man cannot be a judge in his own court, the IEB [Independent Examination Board], cannot be in charge of the remarking of the scripts concerned. We cannot trust that the IEB will be candid enough to expose their own flaws.
