\u2013 Amidu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"medsection1\">\n<!-- End of html generated by this->header() --><\/p>\n<p class=\"floatLeft\">General News of Tuesday, 13 February 2018<\/p>\n<p class=\"floatRight\"><strong>Source: <\/strong>classfmonline.com<\/p>\n<p>2018-02-13<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-left\">\n<p class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/93089941.295.jpg\" alt=\"John Evans Atta Mills News\" title=\"John Evans Atta Mills News\" width=\"295\" height=\"267\" \/><span class=\"image_caption\"><span>Late President John Evans Atta Mills<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"noPrint\">\n<div id=\"537626303\" style=\"width:300;height:250;margin:0;padding:0\">\n<p>\t\t  <noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"b2ad7fa7fd\" name=\"b2ad7fa7fd\" src=\"http:\/\/ghanaweb-d.openx.net\/w\/1.0\/afr?auid=537626303&amp;cb=151125813973067\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\"><a href=\"\/\/ghanaweb-d.openx.net\/w\/1.0\/rc?cs=b2ad7fa7fd&amp;cb=151125813973067\"><\/p>\n<p>\t\t  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/1518559455_854_ai\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"clear:right\">Special Prosecutor nominee Martin Amidu has said his letter of apology to late President John Evans Atta Mills in 2012, after he fell out with the late professor over what he called attempts to conceal \u201cgargantuan\u201d corruption within that administration, was \u201creprehensively\u201d forced out of him by late Chairman of the Council of State Prof Kofi Awoonor and fellow elder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Captain Tsikata (rtd).<\/p>\n<p>It is recalled that Chief of Staff at the time, John Martey Newman, said in a statement then that: \u201cHis Excellency President John Evans Atta Mills has, with immediate effect, relieved Mr Martin Amidu of his post as Attorney General and Minister of Justice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe decision is as a result of Mr Amidu&#8217;s misconduct at a meeting last Friday, 13 January 2012, presided by His Excellency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr Amidu&#8217;s behaviour\u201d, according to the statement, \u201cis incompatible with acceptable standards expected of ministers and appointees of the President.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A letter of apology from Mr Amidu later surfaced following which he was allegedly fired although Mr Amidu has repeatedly said he resigned.<\/p>\n<p>Answering questions from Alhassan Suhuyini, MP for Tamale North and member of parliament\u2019s Appointments Committee on Tuesday, 13 February, about whether he, indeed, wrote that apology letter, Mr Amidu told the hearing that: \u201cThis letter of apology was procured from me by the late Kofi Awoonor, an elder, a former chairman of Council of State, so you will see that at the end of it, I state and I did that carefully [that]: \u2018As it is customary, I have solicited the Chairman of the Council of State and Captain Kojo Tsikata (rtd), as elders, to be kind enough to reiterate my apology to you on my behalf.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey [Awoonor and Tsikata (rtd)] asked me to write this letter and I\u2019ve said it, Captain Tsikata is alive, and when Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu called me and said they wanted this letter, I told him they could sack me, but when the two of them asked me to write this letter, the first letter didn\u2019t have Captain Tsikata\u2019s name, my secretary, Perpetual Alatsane, who is still working, sent it to Kofi Awoonor\u2019s office, then he added the Tsikata and when he brought it, the girl typed it and added the name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was procured by the chairman of the Council of State, who said he was meeting the president that day and that he and Captain [Tsikata (rtd)] were going to the president to present it to him and that they had had certain discussions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the back of my mind, I knew that they were just looking for evidence of an apology to do what they wanted to do but my custom respects age; I\u2019ve worked with these people since 1982, so, I gave them the letter, how come that a confidential letter delivered by the chairman of the council of state to the president is now making the rounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I have already replied to this letter and stated what I\u2019m telling you here today that it was procured from me by two elders who convinced me that this was not a matter; \u2018just give us the letter and we\u2019ll send it\u2019. So, I wrote it. In any case, for me, I don\u2019t see anything wrong when a young person has had a misunderstanding with an elder \u2013 somebody who has been his friend for over 35 years \u2013 and who invites him: \u2018Come and help me\u2019, and there is a breakdown of trust.
