Drivers warn Akufo-Addo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"medsection1\">\n<!-- End of html generated by this->header() --><\/p>\n<p class=\"floatLeft\">General News of Wednesday,  7 February 2018<\/p>\n<p class=\"floatRight\"><strong>Source: <\/strong>www.ghanaweb.com<\/p>\n<p>2018-02-07<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-left\">\n<p class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/43189978.295.jpg\" alt=\"COPEC Demo2\" title=\"COPEC Demo2\" width=\"295\" height=\"165\" \/><span class=\"image_caption\"><span>The demonstrators are calling for a reducing in taxes on petroleum products<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"noPrint\">\n<div id=\"537626303\" style=\"width:300;height:250;margin:0;padding:0\">\n<p>\t\t  <noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"b2ad7fa7fd\" name=\"b2ad7fa7fd\" src=\"http:\/\/ghanaweb-d.openx.net\/w\/1.0\/afr?auid=537626303&amp;cb=151125817929577\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\"><a href=\"\/\/ghanaweb-d.openx.net\/w\/1.0\/rc?cs=b2ad7fa7fd&amp;cb=151125817929577\"><\/p>\n<p>\t\t  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/1518014972_230_ai\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"clear:right\">Commercial drivers have sounded a word of caution to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP government to either ensure that fuel prices are reduced or forget retaining power in the 2020 General Elections.<\/p>\n<p>The drivers who participated in a demonstration organised by the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) and the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) sharing their frustrations with GhanaWeb noted that they now buy fuel with the little profit they make from work and as such are unable to properly take care of their homes.<\/p>\n<p>According to the drivers it is about time the Akufo-Addo led government touting its horns for implementing the \u2018Free Senior High School\u2019 policy and concentrate on fixing the ailing economy of the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFree education does not buy us fuel or food, so the government must fulfil its promise and take the GH\u00a28 tax off fuel prices instead of adding on to it because they told us before coming into power that it was a useless tax,\u201d one of the drivers said.<\/p>\n<p>The drivers suggested that if the fuel prices won\u2019t be reduced then they should be allowed to increase transport fares, so all Ghanaians will feel the pains of the fuel increment.<\/p>\n<p>They threatened to vote out the NPP government in the next elections if their grievances are not addressed.<\/p>\n<p>The demonstration was aimed at pressuring the government to reduce taxes on petroleum products.<\/p>\n<p>The demonstrators wielded placards with inscriptions such as;
