Work on the ground floor of the project, comprising four laboratories and offices among other facilities, is currently nearing completion.<\/p>\n<p>Officials of the GNPC last Friday presented a cheque for GH\u00a2500,000 to the university to add up to the GH\u00a2500,000 it had already presented in fulfilment of the corporation\u2019s pledge to donate GH\u00a21 million as its support for the project.<\/p>\n<p><b>Youth empowerment<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Speaking before the presentation of the cheque, the GNPC Manager in charge of Sustainability, Dr Patrick Kwaku Ofori, said the GNPC made the donation in response to a request by officials of the university.<\/p>\n<p>He said the GNPC was committed to assisting institutions which had the mandate to train the youth who would provide the needed human resources to sustain the oil and gas sector.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Ofori, who is also Chief Operating Officer of the GNPC Foundation, said as part of its vision, the GNPC had already provided a total of GH\u00a21 million to four other universities for the development of some faculties, while about 760 students in various public universities, pursuing courses relevant to the petroleum industry, had also been offered scholarships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to collaborate with the UENR to develop its potential, the climate and forest development to enable it to come out with measures to mitigate effects of the petroleum industry in the country,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p><b>Partnership<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A member of the GNPC Board, Mr Yaw Kyei, who presented the cheque to the Chairman of the UENR Council, Professor Ambrose K.
