{"id":461877,"date":"2018-02-06T11:45:30","date_gmt":"2018-02-06T11:45:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2018\/02\/06\/govt-secures-20m-afdb-cash-to-construct-link-road-facilitate-2nd-adomi-bridge\/"},"modified":"2018-02-06T11:45:30","modified_gmt":"2018-02-06T11:45:30","slug":"govt-secures-20m-afdb-cash-to-construct-link-road-facilitate-2nd-adomi-bridge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2018\/02\/06\/govt-secures-20m-afdb-cash-to-construct-link-road-facilitate-2nd-adomi-bridge\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov\u2019t secures $20m AfDB cash to construct link road, facilitate 2nd \u2018Adomi Bridge\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"medsection1\">\n<!-- End of html generated by this->header() --><\/p>\n<p class=\"floatLeft\">Business News of Tuesday,  6 February 2018<\/p>\n<p class=\"floatRight\"><strong>Source: <\/strong>thebftonline.com<\/p>\n<p>2018-02-06<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-left\">\n<p class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/13988646.295.jpg\" alt=\"Kwasi Amoako Atta Roads And Highways\" title=\"Kwasi Amoako Atta Roads And Highways\" width=\"295\" height=\"171\" \/><span class=\"image_caption\"><span>Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"noPrint\">\n<div id=\"537626303\" style=\"width:300;height:250;margin:0;padding:0\">\n<p>\t\t  <noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"b2ad7fa7fd\" name=\"b2ad7fa7fd\" src=\"http:\/\/ghanaweb-d.openx.net\/w\/1.0\/afr?auid=537626303&amp;cb=151125817929577\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\"><a href=\"\/\/ghanaweb-d.openx.net\/w\/1.0\/rc?cs=b2ad7fa7fd&amp;cb=151125817929577\"><\/p>\n<p>\t\t  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/1517917530_452_ai\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"clear:right\">Government has secured US$20m from the African Development Bank (AfDB) for constructing a link road between Volivo to Dorfor Adidome, the site for constructing an alternative bridge across the Volta Lake, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, the Roads &amp; Highways Minister has told Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>Even though government has already secured Japanese concessionary funding for the actual bridge project, work is yet to commence due to the bad road leading to the site.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry has therefore resolved to secure the necessary funding for a more comprehensive project that will make the bridge relevant and a true alternative when it is finally constructed.<\/p>\n<p>According Mr. Kwasi Amoako-Atta, the AfDB facility is not enough for the road project \u2013 hence the ministry has presented various funding proposals to the Ministry of Finance for consideration.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Amoako-Atta made this statement on the floor of Parliament in response to a question posed by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, seeking to know when construction of the bridge will commence.<\/p>\n<p>The minister, who underscored the importance of a second bridge across the river, said an alternative bridge is important to ensure the free flow of traffic in case of the Adomi Bridge\u2019s closure for renovation or routine maintenance.<\/p>\n<p><b>New suspended bridge<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Amoako-Atta stated that the government of Ghana last year secured a Yen Loan for the development of a 54-meter cable-stayed bridge over the Volta River from Volivo to Dofor Adidome, and it is expected to form a critical part of the Eastern Corridor Development project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bridge is a critical part of the Eastern Corridor Development, which is envisaged to become the main south-north corridor (because it is a shorter route to the northern sector compared to the central corridor.<\/p>\n<p>The bridge will serve as an alternative crossing point on the Volta River in any unforeseen circumstance that results in closure of the Adomi Bridge, as happened recently when the Adomi Bridge was closed down for rehabilitation.
