Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has outlined its plan for the demolition of Railway Quarters, known as the CMB Area, in Accra on Sunday, February 4, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>This is to pave way for the private commercial development of the area.<\/p>\n<p>An evacuation notice, signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the GRDA, Mr Richard Dombo, sighted by the Daily Graphic, stated that a task force would be dispatched to the area to demolish all unauthorised structures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease be informed that the authority will not be liable for any loss or damage of property resulting from your failure to evacuate from the site prior to the demolition exercise,\u201d the notice stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are accordingly informed that there will not be another warning notice before action is taken to remove any remaining encroachers on the said land.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo do take heed of this friendly reminder to honour your pledge to vacate the land by the end of January 2018,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p><b>Reaction<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Residents of the area have, however, rejected the decision by the GRDA to forcibly eject them from the area, claiming that `the matter is under ligation and so any attempt to evacuate them will amount to contempt of court.<\/p>\n<p>A notice from the lawyers of the residents, Afadjato Chambers, to the CEO of the GRDA states in part: \u201cIt is the legitimate expectation of my client that you will wait patiently for the final determination of the matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>No compensation<\/b><\/p>\n<p>According to the lawyers, the planned demolition of the area to pave way for a private commercial development defeated the purpose of the acquisition of the land in 1829 for the development of rail lines without the payment of compensation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe stretch of land on which the railway bungalow is sitting, abutting it and the area known as CMB form part and parcel of a stretch of land granted the Mantse Ankrah Family for its contribution during a tribal war known as the Bame War in 1829 by the Ga State,\u201d the notice said.<\/p>\n<p><!-- uploaded by: 56 updated by: -1 --><\/p>\n<p><!-- Start of html
