{"id":460853,"date":"2018-02-02T15:30:24","date_gmt":"2018-02-02T15:30:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2018\/02\/02\/ghs-receives-samsung-tablets-for-improved-health-information-management\/"},"modified":"2018-02-02T15:30:24","modified_gmt":"2018-02-02T15:30:24","slug":"ghs-receives-samsung-tablets-for-improved-health-information-management","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2018\/02\/02\/ghs-receives-samsung-tablets-for-improved-health-information-management\/","title":{"rendered":"GHS receives Samsung tablets for improved health information management"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"medsection1\">\n<!-- End of html generated by this->header() --><\/p>\n<p class=\"floatLeft\">General News of Friday,  2 February 2018<\/p>\n<p class=\"floatRight\"><strong>Source: <\/strong>ghananewsagency.org<\/p>\n<p>2018-02-02<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-left\">\n<p class=\"article-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/54365099.295.jpg\" alt=\"Ghana Health Service GHS1\" title=\"Ghana Health Service GHS1\" width=\"295\" height=\"283\" \/><span class=\"image_caption\"><span>Ghana Health Service (GHS) logo<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"noPrint\">\n<div id=\"537626303\" style=\"width:300;height:250;margin:0;padding:0\">\n<p>\t\t  <noscript><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"b2ad7fa7fd\" name=\"b2ad7fa7fd\" src=\"http:\/\/ghanaweb-d.openx.net\/w\/1.0\/afr?auid=537626303&amp;cb=151125813973067\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\"><a href=\"\/\/ghanaweb-d.openx.net\/w\/1.0\/rc?cs=b2ad7fa7fd&amp;cb=151125813973067\"><\/p>\n<p>\t\t  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/1517585424_732_ai\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"clear:right\">The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has taken delivery of 2,590 Samsung Android tablets, which have special inbuilt e-tracking software devices to support the digitisation of Ghana\u2019s District Health Information Management System (DHIMS-2).<\/p>\n<p>Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), who received the devices from Samsung Electronics in Accra on Thursday, said they would be deployed in all functional Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) zones in the Upper East, Volta and Eastern regions.<\/p>\n<p>He said the facility would be very useful to frontline health workers in capturing and processing of all data, ensure accuracy and timeliness in informing policy decisions, and aiding in budgeting.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Nsiah-Asare explained that the \u201cRollout of Tablet-Based e-Tracker\u201d was a partnership drive between the GHS, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Korean International Coorperation Agency (KOICA), Samsung, Evaluate for Health, and Good Neighbours. <\/p>\n<p>He said the \u2018Tracker-Capture,\u2019 implemented by the GHS as a core part of the DHIS-2 suite of Android apps, provided offline alternatives to its traditional online web-based data capture and reporting tools.<\/p>\n<p>This, he said, sought to change the paradigm by moving away from manual register to real-time tablet-based digital registry and, over time, this transition would strengthen planning initiatives at the central level, enable tailored supervision and management at the district level, and reduce inefficiencies in data capture.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Nsiah-Asare said the GHS\u2019s vision was to use modern information technology to address some of the bottlenecks in the health sector as a whole, facilitate information sharing across the continuum of care, ensure evidenced-based management decision making, especially at the lowest level of health services, and promote transparency and ensure accountability.<\/p>\n<p>He thanked all the partners and hoped the donation would be the beginning of similar others to support an expansion of the project to other regions to completely replace the paper-based reporting systems.  <\/p>\n<p>Ms Melinda Tabler-Stone, the Acting Chief of Mission at the US Embassy, however, stated that to fully achieve President Nana Akufo-Addo\u2019s \u201cGhana beyond Aid,\u201d there was the need to strengthen information systems for informed decision-making;
