Source: Graphic.com.gh

2018-01-27

News of the sale of the rights of the Ghana Movie Awards to Zylofon Media by GP Productions, organisers of the awards, elicited relief among critics who have consistently lambasted them for the poor handling of the event since its inception.

However, it seems Fred Nuamah, who heads GP Productions will not be allowed to ride off into the sunset with the huge cash he claims to have received from Zylofon Media as he is being chased by some of the people he ‘owes.’ One of such persons is Mawuko Kuadzi, the manager of Abraham Attah, who wants Mr Nuamah to give his young client plaques he won at the 2015 edition of the awards.

Abraham Attah won two awards at the event, Best Actor in a Leading Role and Discovery for his role in the hit movie, Beasts of No Nation but a disappointed Mawuko told Showbiz on Monday that Fred Nuamah is yet to give Abrahim his trophies.

“After we were presented with the awards on stage, the organisers took them back with the excuse of sending them to the manufacturers for further polishing. We have waited for over two years and there is no sign of us receiving the prizes we won.

“When I call Fred Nuamah, he gives me many excuses and that is frustrating. I haven’t seen any awards that plaques are taken back from winners. This is the first time I’m experiencing that and it’s very disappointing,” he said.

Abraham Attah is not alone in this situation, other members on the production of Beasts of No Nation, who won in various categories are yet to receive their plaques as well.

Beasts of No Nation, a Netflix production shot in Ghana, won 11 awards including Actor in a Supporting Role won by Idris Elba, Original Song, Visual Effects, Production Design, Cinematography, Sound Editing and Mixing and Best Directing.

“Can you imagine that none of the awardees have received their plaques? I’m very happy that Zylofon is taking over the organisation but Phred has to settle his ‘debts’ and not carry over the burden to the new owners.

We need to have our plaques so that the new owners can start on a clean sheet,” Mawuko told Showbiz.

“Fred’s action isn’t creating a good image for Zylofon and I must say the latter has a lot of work to do to build the confidence of stakeholders in the awards because this is not right,” he added.

However, Fred Nuamah told Showbiz yesterday that he and his team cannot be blamed. “Sincerely, we have been looking for Abraham Attah to give him his plaques but we can’t find him and any member of his team. We have tried so many times but to no avail.

“Can you imagine that none of the awardees have received their plaques? The plaques have been brought back from India where they were manufactured but we can’t even find them,” he said.

Fred also denied that Abraham Attah’s manager had been getting in touch with him to get the plaques.

“It’s not true he contacts me. He used to call me right after the awards in December but I haven’t heard from again,” he added.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             !["Nuamah]("https://ghanamma.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/55051886.295.jpg" ""Nuamah")
