<\/div>\n<\/div>\nSix of the BBC\u2019s leading male presenters have agreed to take pay cuts after revelations over equal salaries.<\/p>\n
The BBC said Huw Edwards, Nicky Campbell, John Humphrys, Jon Sopel, Nick Robinson and Jeremy Vine had all accepted reduced wages.<\/p>\n
The move follows Carrie Gracie\u2019s\u00a0resignation as BBC China editor\u00a0in protest at unequal pay between male and female international editors.<\/p>\n
Humphrys said he would be earning \u201chugely less\u201d than the \u00a3600,000 he was.<\/p>\n
The move comes after the BBC\u00a0revealed the pay of on-air talent earning over \u00a3150,000\u00a0in July. Two-thirds of stars on the list, including the top seven earners, were men.<\/p>\n
Humphrys, the presenter on Radio 4\u2019s flagship Today programme and Mastermind, was revealed to have earned between \u00a3600,000 and \u00a3649,999 in 2016\/17.<\/p>\n
He refused to confirm or deny reports that his pay packet had been halved, to \u00a3250,000-\u00a3300,000, but did say his new salary would be \u201ca lot less than \u00a3600,000\u201d.<\/p>\n
He said he had, in fact, taken a total of three pay cuts. \u201cIt seemed fair,\u201d he told BBC News. \u201cThe BBC used to have, in the good old days, an awful lot of money.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt no longer has an awful lot of money. I was earning a lot of money and it seemed entirely proper to me that I should take a few pay cuts.\u201d<\/p>\n
Of the six men, Radio 2 and Eggheads presenter Jeremy Vine was the best-paid of the group, earning between \u00a3700,000-\u00a3749,999 in 2016\/17.<\/p>\n
Jon Sopel, the BBC\u2019s North America editor, earned the least, in the \u00a3200,000-\u00a3249,999 bracket \u2013 compared to Carrie Gracie\u2019s \u00a3135,000-a-year salary.<\/p>\n
