<\/div>\n<\/div>\nOne protester has been killed in clashes in Honduras between riot police and demonstrators who dispute the result of November\u2019s presidential poll.<\/p>\n
Police fired tear gas and cleared roadblocks made of burning tyres across the country. The death occurred in the northern town of Saba.<\/p>\n
The protest was organised by supporters of the defeated opposition candidate.<\/p>\n
Last month, incumbent\u00a0President Juan Orlando Hernandez was declared the winner\u00a0despite days of street protests.<\/p>\n
On Saturday a local NGO in Saba, 210km (130 miles) north-east of the capital Tegucigalpa, said a 60-year-old man was killed and another person wounded when police opened fire on a roadblock, Reuters news agency reported.<\/p>\n
The 25 November election has been widely criticised.\u00a0Supporters of opposition leader Salvador Nasralla are deeply suspicious of the electoral tribunal\u00a0that counted the ballots.<\/p>\n
This is because it is appointed by Congress, which is controlled by Mr Hern\u00e1ndez\u2019s National Party.<\/p>\n Mr Nasralla initially established a lead as the votes were being counted, but this quickly diminished and he accused the authorities of manipulating the results.<\/p>\n Thousands of people took to the streets in rival demonstrations following the election.<\/p>\n Human rights group Amnesty International says 14 people died in the clashes, but police say only three have died.<\/p>\n President Hern\u00e1ndez, 49, has been in power since 2013, and is the first president to run for a second term after the country\u2019s supreme court lifted a ban on re-election.<\/p>\n Source: BBC<\/p>\n![\"A](\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/_99681571_hi044193698.jpg\")
