{"id":455340,"date":"2018-01-15T13:42:06","date_gmt":"2018-01-15T13:42:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2018\/01\/15\/govt-hits-historic-fiscal-deficit-target-bawumia\/"},"modified":"2018-01-15T13:42:06","modified_gmt":"2018-01-15T13:42:06","slug":"govt-hits-historic-fiscal-deficit-target-bawumia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2018\/01\/15\/govt-hits-historic-fiscal-deficit-target-bawumia\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt hits historic fiscal deficit target \u2013 Bawumia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"bsac bsac-clearfix bsac-post-top bsac-float-center bsac-align-center bsac-column-1 bsac-hide-on-phone bsac-hide-on-tablet-portrait bsac-hide-on-tablet-landscape bsac-hide-on-desktop\">\n<div id=\"bsac-277964-621891054\" class=\"bsac-container bsac-type-image  bsac-hide-on-desktop bsac-hide-on-tablet-portrait bsac-hide-on-tablet-landscape bsac-hide-on-phone\" itemscope=\"\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/WPAdBlock\" data-adid=\"277964\" data-type=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"bsac-image\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/top-banner-web-renault.jpg\" alt=\"Renault\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Government under President Akufo-Addo in 2017 chalked an historic feat in the macroeconomic sector by achieving its Fiscal Deficit Target.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first since 2006.<\/p>\n<p>A visibly elated Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia said the achievement was historic, expressing gratitude to government appointees for their diligence.<\/p>\n<p>The Government created fiscal space by capping of earmarked funds to 25% of government revenue and realigning expenditures to government priorities, the Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Bawumia, disclosed at the opening of the 2018 New Year School and Conference at the University of Ghana, Legon on Monday, January 15, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo government has been able to do this even though many have expressed the intent to,\u201d the Vice President noted in relation to the capping initiative.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the government stayed current and focused on payments to statutory funds such as GETFund, NHIS, DACF, SSNIT, Road Fund in 2017 while paying arrears inherited from the previous Mahama administration.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the government also validated arrears inherited for the Statutory Funds, Capex, Compensation, and goods and services at the end of 2016 which amounted to GH\u00a23.1 billion.
