{"id":454442,"date":"2018-01-12T10:06:23","date_gmt":"2018-01-12T10:06:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2018\/01\/12\/amidu-will-go-after-akufo-addo-if-he-engages-in-corruption-fuseini\/"},"modified":"2018-01-12T10:06:23","modified_gmt":"2018-01-12T10:06:23","slug":"amidu-will-go-after-akufo-addo-if-he-engages-in-corruption-fuseini","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2018\/01\/12\/amidu-will-go-after-akufo-addo-if-he-engages-in-corruption-fuseini\/","title":{"rendered":"Amidu will go after Akufo-Addo if he engages in corruption &#8211; Fuseini"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Inusah-Fuseini.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"mashsb-container mashsb-main mashsb-stretched\"> <\/aside>\n<p>The NDC Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Inusah Fuseini has described the newly appointed Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu as a \u2018no nonsense\u2019 and principled person who will even dare to go after President Akufo-Addo if he\u2019s convinced the President has engaged in corruption.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, Martin Amidu is fiercely independent and has demonstrated over the years that he\u2019ll pursue persons engaged in corruption no matter whose ox is gored.<\/p>\n<p>President Akufo-Addo on Thursday evening named the former Attorney General as the Special Prosecutor subject to Parliamentary approval.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after the President assented to five Acts including that of the Special Prosecutor\u00a0 on January 2, 2017, which were passed by Parliament last year.<\/p>\n<p>Parliament passed the Office of the Special Prosecutor Bill in November last year, which allows for the establishment of an independent anti-corruption institution to deal with public officials who have been deemed or found liable to corrupt dealings.<\/p>\n<p>A member of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) Legal Team, Chris Ackumey has said the President made a terrible decision by settling on renowned anti corruption campaigner, Martin Amidu as Ghana\u2019s first Special Prosecutor, because he\u2019s vindictive.<\/p>\n<p>But lawyer Inusah Fuseini who\u2019s the Ranking Member on the Parliamentary Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs in an interview on <strong>Anopa Kasapa<\/strong> on <strong>Kasapa FM<\/strong> disagreed with his colleague NDC member, arguing that Martin who\u2019s a former Attorney General best fits the position and will deliver on the task assigned him.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cMartin Amidu is fiercely independent and I can vouch for that. Sometimes you want to describe him as an unruly horse, if you release him you might not be able to control him. He has strong views on matters and he\u2019s prepared to fight in an empty room till he succeeds in what he\u2019s doing. Martin Amidu as a partisan political activist and Martin Amidu as an anti-corruption crusader are two different persons. I don\u2019t think that his association with a political party will in anyway cloud his judgment and performance when he\u2019s dealing with corruption cases.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He added: <em>\u201cI know Martin Amidu to be very diligent, hardworking and a dexterous man who will apply the law to the fact and make a decision knowing that any decision might be subject to challenge in court. He brings into office, a huge reputation of anti-corruption crusader. He has a reputation to protect. If you know Martin Amidu, he\u2019ll go for people who have engaged\u00a0in corruption no matter whose ox is gored.
