{"id":454210,"date":"2018-01-11T17:53:45","date_gmt":"2018-01-11T17:53:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ghana-mma.com\/2018\/01\/11\/amidus-as-special-prosecutor-apt-emile-short\/"},"modified":"2018-01-11T17:53:45","modified_gmt":"2018-01-11T17:53:45","slug":"amidus-as-special-prosecutor-apt-emile-short","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2018\/01\/11\/amidus-as-special-prosecutor-apt-emile-short\/","title":{"rendered":"Amidu&#8217;s as Special Prosecutor apt &#8211; Emile Short"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/emile_short-475x267.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"mashsb-container mashsb-main mashsb-stretched\"> <\/aside>\n<p>Former Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) Justice Emile Short has said anti-corruption crusader, Martin Amidu\u2019s choice as Special Prosecutor by President Akufo Addo is a wise decision.<\/p>\n<p>Commending the President for making a good choice, Emile Short said this demonstrates the President\u2019s personal commitment to the fight against corruption as Mr Amidu is a fearless anti-corruption crusader.<\/p>\n<p>President Akufo-Addo on Thursday evening named the former Attorney General as the Special Prosecutor subject to Parliamentary approval.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after President Akufo-Addo assented to five Acts including that of the Special Prosecutor\u00a0 on January 2, 2017, which were passed by Parliament last year.<\/p>\n<p>Parliament passed the Office of the Special Prosecutor Bill in November last year, which allows for the establishment of an independent anti-corruption institution to deal with public officials who have been deemed or found liable to corrupt dealings.<\/p>\n<p>The law now gives power to the new independent prosecutor who\u2019s tasked with the responsibility of prosecuting past and present public officers deemed to have been corrupt.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting further, Justice Emile Short touting Mr Amidu\u2019s credentials said the latter has over the years proven to be someone who is not influenced by political consideration, very objective and a capable lawyer to carry out the task assigned him.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cHe\u2019s very competent as a prosecutor, I\u2019ve known him since when he was the deputy Attorney General to Obed Asamoah, then he became the Attorney General later on. He has all the academic credentials as well as experience that is required for a very sensitive and important position like this.
