Lawyer for the Aislani and Yousef families, Justice Abdulai has accused 60-year-old Omar Mohammed Mahmoud of threatening his clients for reporting him to various crime-fighting units in Ghana following his alleged defilement of 14-year-old Anood Jibril Aislani.

According to Justice Abdulai, the accused, Omar Mahmoud fled the Ghana in 2017 when the matter was referred to the Chief Imam, Dr Sheikh Oscan Nuhu Shaributu to intervene, and return with thugs and dangerous ammunitions in October 2018, to attack and harass the Aislani and Yousef families.

He added that the attacks were extended to Hassan Zein, a Ghanaian businessman who offered assistance to the victim’s family to seek justice for her.

“Since Omar Mohammed Mahmoud returned, he came with thugs and ammunition, and uses these to threaten my clients and Hassan Zein, simply for his pivotal role in ensuring that the case against Omar is prosecuted,” Justice Abdulai disclosed.

“Some of you have been informed of the shooting incident over the weekend [December 22, 2018] directed at the brother of Anood, that is Bilal. Anood and her mother were also attacked in their bedrooms and shot at but they survived. The mother reported to the Kwabenya police station but unfortunately, the suspects have not been arrested,” he narrated.

He added that an attack directed at a member of the Yousef family, Dawood Yousef also took place at the same time, but fortunately, the assailants failed to injure him.

Lawyer Justice Abdulai said the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Sevice, as well as the Interior Ministry and Inspector General of Police, have been petitioned on the recent attacks since the actions of Omar Mahmoud pose serious security threats to the country.

“A petition has been sent to the Director of CID, Minister of Interior and his deputy and all entities who have a hand in ensuring that the perpetrators do not go scot-free,” he said.
