Some Amanadehye3 old students
All is not well in the camp of popular Kumasi-based school couple Amanadehye3 as boys’ school Prempeh College are set to cut its alliance with their long time “wives” Yaa Asantewaa Girls SHS, MyNewsGh.com has learnt.
The award-winning school in Ghana is eyeing St Monica’s SHS in Mampong, or nearby Kumasi Wesley Girls SHS to make the alliance. According to some Prempeh students, some Yaa Asantewaa girls on social media joined trolls accusing them of speaking bad English and that Prempeh boys are “blackies”.
Flimsy as these two reasons are, the major reason for the break from Yaa Asantewaa SHS is believed to be the inability of the students of Prempeh College to socialize and mingle with the Yaa Asantewaa Girls during social events such as sports, entertainment and visitations, MyNewsGh.com was told.
The Headmistress of Yaa Asantewaa school (one Mrs Fameyeh) does not allow the boys to socialize or come to their school as pertained in the past. Both past and present students of Prempeh College have had an alliance with Yaa Asantewaa SHS with many of them marrying out after school.
Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ Senior High was established in 1951 by Ghana’s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The school was however started in 1960 with funds from the Ghana Education Trust. Yaa Asantewaa as the name implies was named after the Queen mother of Ejisu Yaa Asantewaa who led a war against the British Colonialists.
Prempeh College is a public secondary schoolfor boys located in Kumasi, the capital city of the Ashanti Region, Ghana. The school was founded in 1949 by the Asanteman traditional authority, the British Colonial Government, the Methodist Church of Ghana and the Presbyterian church of Ghana. The School is named after King of Ashanti, (Asantehene) Sir Osei Tutu Agyeman Prempeh II, who donated the land on which the school was built and was modeled on Eton College in England. The school topped matriculation at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2004 with 441 students admitted and in 2012, with 296 students from the college admitted, and is considered to be one of the best secondary schools in Ghana. The School has won the National robotics championships a record three times between 2013 and 2016. In 2016 Prempeh College won the Toyota Innovation Award at the International Robofest World Championships held in Michigan, USA.
