The Electoral Commission (EC) says it will go ahead with the referendum in the Oti area in the Volta Region despite a suit by two Ghanaians seeking to injunct the process.

The two who are members of the One Volta group argues among others that the Electoral Commission failed to publish the list of polling stations in the gazette thus violating their rights to vote.

A member of the group, Mayor Agbleze told Starr News they expect the EC to comply with the injunction else face a possible suit of contempt.

But reacting to the news of the injunction, Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr Bossman Asare who acknowledged notice of the suit said the Commission will go on with the process as planned.

“The Electoral Commission has been notified but it’s about gazetting of polling station which we have done long along, we did it on December 12 and it’s in the CI. So from where we sit we don’t see how somebody can injunct this particular election.

“One thing about the law is that the law is not science, they may have an interpretation to it and we also have the people we work with who advise us on what to do. It’s not like you put two colours together and everybody does the same thing and we all get the same results. Where I sit as a staff of the EC, I’m very much convinced that we are on the right course and history is on our side.”
