The show will educate the public on safety measures to reduce accidents
The novel automobile TV show, steers TV show, has been launched in Accra, to educate and inform the public about road safety as well as automobile trends and innovations, the importance, benefits and challenges facing the automobile industry in Ghana.
The steers TV show also seeks to create a platform where automobile traders can showcase their products and one where viewers can be entertained.
In recent times, road carnages have hit a record high and there has been a public outcry for road safety measures to reduce road accidents.
Data available at the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) indicates that nearly 70 per cent of all persons killed and seriously injured through road traffic crashes were men and about 60 percent of crash victims were within the productive age bracket of 18 to 55 years.
This trend means we are building communities of widows and orphans out of indiscipline, making tourism (domestic and foreign) unattractive while increasing the economic cost of road traffic crashes.
As at September this year, a total of 10,051 crashes of road traffic accidents have been recorded involving 16,281 vehicles, 9, 973 injuries and 1,710 deaths.
Thankfully, there is substantial research showing that a well informed public on automobile best safety practices will culminate in the reduction of road accidents.
Ms Emelia Ainooson, the host of STEERS, said every year, over one million vehicles are registered, indicating the growth of the automobile industry, therefore, it has become necessary to carefully regulate; inform and educate the public through the TV medium, thus, the steers TV show.
Mrs. Jean-marie Ativie, the TV show producer said the show will adequately represent the interests of auto industry player. She also encouraged industry players to support this revolutionary TV show.
Invited guests of the launch expressed delight about the upcoming TV show and were optimistic about the change the show could bring.
