A local company that manufacturers agricultural inputs, the Desert Lion International (DLI), will from next year, introduce private cocoa mass spraying and pruning services, to complement the work of government in the cocoa sector.
The package of the company, located at Adadientem in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region, will include hand pollination, all of which will be provided on demand.

The move is intended to help the country to increase its cocoa production by the end of the cocoa season in 2019.
The Chief Executive Officer of DLI, Mr Kwame Tweneboah-Koduah, made this known when a Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture in charge of Cocoa, Mr George Oduro, paid a working visit to the company at Adadientem in the Ashanti Region.
The visit was for the minister to acquaint himself with the operations of the company and how it was contributing to the growth of the agricultural sector.
Partnership
Mr Tweneboah-Koduah said the company was collaborating with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to assemble critical inputs and transfer of technology to young Ghanaians.
He explained that the objective of the collaboration with KNUST was to ensure technology transfer from the university to farmers.
He said the company’s assembling plant had the capacity to assemble 10,000 spraying machines and other products per month and had supplied over 20,000 of its spraying machines and other products to cocoa farmers in the country and West Africa.
Support
The company also presented items worth about GH¢25,000 to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in support of farmers.
They included a tricycle, motorised pruners, motorised sprayers, an oil palm harvester, 100 cutlasses; 10 knapsacks and two turbo sprayers.
The rest were insecticides, 12 pairs of farm boots, goggles and nose masks.
Deputy Agric Minister
Mr Oduro, who received the items on behalf of the government, thanked the company for the gesture and its intention to support the government to exceed its one million tonnage cocoa production target.
He assured the management of the ministry’s support in its intended effort to extend its services to farmers across the country, and to develop the cocoa and oil palm sectors.
