Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central
Member of Parliament for Assin Central the Honourable Kennedy Agyapong is warning his party the New Patriotic Party to be “wise”and desist from rejoicing over the praises heaped on the government by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
According to Mr Agyapong, such praises mean that things are bad in the country and the government is unpopular. He said the NPP is not being a sensible party if it is still refusing to pick lessons from the government of former President Kufuor.
“Please stop listening to these people, the IMF people the moment they begin to praise you, it means you are doing their bidding, but that brings hardship to Ghanaians” he began.
“During President Kufour’s era, I said same on countless occasions but no one listened to me, instead they went to my father and told him to call me to order because I am destroying the government…they listened to the IMF, but I ask, does the IMF vote? It is the people of Ghana who vote so you should listen to them” he added.
“What kind of dry Christmas is this? I have promised my constituents but I won’t go there this Christmas because I don’t have money…,” he confessed
The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Ms Christine Lagarde days ago observed that the Ghanaian economy is in a better place than it was two years ago.
She said the IMF-supported programme had been an anchor for orderly economic adjustment and a positive signal to the market.
During that period, Ms Lagarde said, the Ghanaian authorities had made important gains towards macroeconomic stability, including inflation, which had declined to a single digit and now within the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG’s) tolerance band; buoyant growth, averaging about five per cent between 2015 and 2018 (and over six per cent in 2017-18) and a primary surplus in 2017 for the first time in 15 years.
