Atsu has struggled for form at Newcastle
It may have been a while since Michael Essien and the like were at the very pinnacle of the Premier League winning titles, but there are still plenty of Ghanaians earning a living in the English leagues. And doing a good job too.
With the season getting towards the midpoint, a number of our stars are looking good and doing their country proud.
We decided to take a look at some of Ghana’s biggest stars playing in England and analyse just how well they’re performing…
Andy Yiadom
It’s been a bit of a turbulent season for Andy Yiadom so far. He joined Reading in the summer and the club have struggled so far with manager Paul Clement sacked just a few days ago.
The Royals are now among the favourites to be relegated with the majority of bookmakers, and are currently priced at 3-4 with William Hill to be playing in League one next season.
Yiadom has failed to impress with his new club having made just 12 appearances and seeing his side languish in 21st.
The likes of the bet365 mobile app now have them 4-1 to finish bottom of the Championship and it’s going to take a huge effort from the new manager if they’re to survive the drop.
Christian Atsu
Christian Atsu is another struggling to find his form at Newcastle, another club who are only a handful of points from the drop in the Premier League.
The winger received widespread criticism for his performance against West Ham just a few days ago in what was only his first appearance of the season.
With him no adhering himself to the fans during his short spell on the pitch he’s unlikely to have any major role in the remainder of the season as the Magpies look to overcome odds of 7/2 and stay in the division.
Jordan Ayew
Jordan Ayew is yet to find the net for Crystal Palace since joining in the summer from relegated Swansea, but Roy Hodgson still feels like the 27-year-old can turn a corner.
He’s played 11 games for the Eagles so far this year but has been training hard and a goal is just a matter of minutes away.
Crystal Palace certainly need them. It’s been far from the Palace of last season for Hodgson with the club having won just three of their 15 games. That’s placed them just three points off the drop zone and a real relegation candidate come the beginning of May.
Daniel Amartey
Leicester certainly don’t have any relegation worries. The club are flying in ninth in the Premier League, only a point of sixth and the Europa League places.
Daniel Amartey has been a real everpresent in the Leicester side under Claude Puel and is even about to open contract talks to secure his long term future at the club.
The 23-year-old has been out injured for a little while but that hasn’t stopped him making a handful of appearances before the ankle injury that is keeping him out for 6-8 weeks.
He’ll be a welcome return for the Foxes, who will look to build on their season, of course in honour of their late, great chairman.
Albert Adomah
Aston Villa are currently looking to cement their position in the Championship Play-Offs further which could make Albert Adomah a Premier League player for the second time.
Rumours have been circulating about a return to Middlesbrough in January but Villa are keen to keep him and are hopeful he can play a big part in the rest of their campaign.
Under Dean Smith it’s expected he’ll get more game time, with the new manager pleased with how he’s working, meaning it could be a busy second half of the season for the 30-year-old.
The Villans are among the favourites at 3-1 with bookie Betfred for promotion after a couple of years out of the top flight. Can Adomah be a key man? Only time will tell.
