Manchester United 2-2 Arsenal: Gunners held in bruising Premier League encounter at Old Trafford

Arsenal were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against Manchester United in a bruising encounter at Old Trafford.

The visitors took the lead when David De Gea inexplicably allowed Shkodran Mustafi’s header to slip through his fingers and trickle agonisingly over the line.

United responded instantly as Ander Herrera was quickest to react to Marcos Rojo’s spilled free kick to square for Anthony Martial to tap home his eighth goal of the season.

After losing Aaron Ramsey and Rob Holding to injuries, the introduction of Alexandre Lacazette sparked the Gunners into life as they regained the lead through the France internationals scuffed shot.

But right from the restart the game was level again as Sead Kolasinac dithered on the ball in the box after Romelu Lukaku caused mayhem, allowing Jesse Lingard to squeeze the ball past Bernd Leno.

Moments of the match

While there were plenty of obscure moments during the game, there are two which really cannot be split and will have to share this accolade.

After years of being the best goalkeeper in the Premier League, De Gea has seemingly decided since the World Cup to drop a clanger every now and then.

When Mustafi broke free in the box from a corner, his innocuous header bounced harmlessly off the ground and into the Spaniard’s hands. Replays proved the ball went over the line to leave the former Real Madrid target incredibly embarrassed.

When Marouane Fellaini came off the bench, he was clearly content on just wreaking havoc on the Old Trafford pitch.

Sizing up Lucas Torreira seemed a tad unfair, so the Belgian decided to go for Matteo Guendouzi. In particular, his hair.

Just like a petulant child, the 30-year-old midfielder grabbed a handful of the teenager’s luscious curly locks and gave them an almighty tug.
